clicking the link in the left hand column just brings up a redirect of Community Portal onto Community Portal. No content, though I can see from the Recent Changes that you've been working on it. Dxradio 10:16, 24 November 2005 (EST)
- I've caused enough trouble for one hour. I'm taking a break. Forgive me. Try it again. Tom Haws 10:21, 24 November 2005 (EST)
Tom, Both of us are working on the portal - causing conflicts. Can you give me 15 minutes --Laurie 11:17, 24 November 2005 (EST)
Sorry Tom, it appears that I have lost your comments on language etc but I totally lost the Community Portal from the main web site. I have rolled it back a bit and moved some stuff into the discussion are. Sorry we are all learning. Might have found our firts problem of people coming in from two different avenues. --Laurie 11:26, 24 November 2005 (EST)
- Hi mate, I had a play with the Main Page as you have probably seen. Just throwing up some ideas on how we might be able to brighten it up. No activity today from you - must be having a busy day at work. --Laurie 13:51, 25 November 2005 (EST)
- I really like it. Thanksgiving Holiday busy with family. Good work. Tom Haws 13:53, 27 November 2005 (EST)
Versions
Yep, Looks good to me. You would have to have picked a page which I have to redo. I am grabbing everything from Version 4 Beta as a start rather than putting time into something that is not current. Version suggestion is great. You will be able to see what pages that I have redone as they are using the default theme from version 4.
If you look at the main page do you want to have a go at the welcome area - Brain dead at this time. --192.168.26.1 14:38, 27 November 2005 (EST)
Fancy
Had a look at PGVWiki:Community Portal/fancy. It has a LOT of things on it but I liked the concept. It should generate a fair bit of interest but perhaps it has a bit too much there to begin with. Lets have a play and see when we can drop it into the Portal page proper.
I have put a fair bit of stuff into the Administrators Guide and the menu for the Users Guide with links to lots of pages. Going to walk away from it for a week or so to see what happens. Will put a bit of thought into the fancy page though _ my spare time is aobut to run out. Time to go back to work.
Going to pester John about fixing up then ameserver and then do a bit of advertising of the site via forum and any other avenues you might be able to think of. PGVWiki has not been bot'ed as yet but that is probably because of the nameserver issues.

Questions
No I can not find Versions either. I have looked at all the special pages /deletions etc and no find.
What page are you saying is too busy?? any ideas on how to fix then???
I have seen the language thing done in both ways on sites I have been visiting. The problem with having en/es extensions on the front is that creates numerous web sites rather than 1 location. Means more subdomains etc. I can find no clear documentation on how to set up multi-language site around - if you have a link that might help for discussion then would appreciate it. Did find this http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Single_second-level_domain.

Backup
At the moment I am doing an hourly dump of the database and a weekly backup of the website. The problem exists if something happens to me - not so much about the web site but how it would continue. This would be a problem no matter where it was unless multiple people have acces to the server/location. So what I have also done is commence a daily dump of the database and I will do a weekly dump of the web site to an offsite FTP location. I think I will provide you and John the address and passwords so it can be accessed. What do you think? Can you offer any other alternatives.
Database dump is about 1 meg at this time compressed 6 megs uncompressed. Web site about 6 megs. We will just need to test that it works. --Laurie Lewis 08:39, 1 December 2005 (EST)
Can you read this for me

It might do what you are talking about but having a bit of trouble getting my head around it.

Code doesn't appear correctly
I've only dabbled in Wiki pages here and there, so I may be doing something wrong. The creating custom report How-To has some XML code in it which is not displaying properly. At wikipedia, any blocks of code are surrounded with a dashed line and filled in grey. This set-up doesn't do that and doesn't maintain line feeds/carrage returns.
I'd like to add more custom report hints as I collect my thoughts, but I'll need to be able to provide example code.

Our little discussion
Have simplified it somewhat. I think it covers all that is needed but have a look here
- I think that is better. Beyond that, you and I should probably just see what edits or comments any others have. I learned at Wikipedia that 5 heads are better than two in trying to figure things out. And 12 are even better. :-). Tom Haws 07:53, 9 December 2005 (EST)
About thoughts, Well i dont have mush, that why i havent posted any. --Lordrebus 06:14, 10 December 2005 (EST)
How To
Hi Tom,
About the How to's. Is there a list if something is needed to be writen? A Todo list?
I was thinking of adding an article how to install IIS with PGV. In a simular way as the PHPLaunch article. Do you think that it would interest some people?

Hello Tom,
You are welcom... ( wrong user 220.236.231.236|(Talk) )
Do you have any suggestion about on other article? Is anything else is needed to decrees the Help forum?
Imsza 23:42, 2 May 2006 (EST)
Tom,
This is confusing. I leave a massage on your TalkPage and you reply on mine page.
And here is the answer, on your page...
Is there a more simple way to have a discussion? Like a forum? Or this is it?
Anyway... I try to look for a pattern in the discussions on the SF Forum to make a general help article, what ever that would be.
There is also a possibillity to leave a post in the SF Forum -> Help/Open Discussion, that there is a new article... and in a few words, a general description about that with the link to wiki. People (usualy) search the Forum before they post something.
But than again... it's always a pleasure to see an old UNIX guru to cry
If you find something interesting, let me know. Until then, I'll check out the ->Add to FAQ<-

- Yes, it's a weird way to talk. But it's the mediawiki way. I like your approach and I appreciate the efforts you dedicate. It is humbling to think of the time and effort John spends, and it's nice to think we are helping in some way. Tom Haws (Talk) 03:53, 3 May 2006 (EST)
John and the developers are very nice guys. Always helping. So they deserve our help by helping others if we can, to off load them. I think that the PGV community it self is a special group. Just look at the SF Help forum. Laurie helped me to get started on wiki, Pfblair helped me a LOT with my articles for spell checking (english is not my first language), etc... So we are not only investing time and effort in just a program, but we are investing and raising the whole PGV communitys existence to a higher level. In a few words: Help to improve.
Wow... I should be a politician Imsza 22:48, 3 May 2006 (EST)
Re: Developer's Guide
Hi Tom, I realized that I had a lot of documentation that I use to get the students here at Neumont University up to speed on the that I should just put up on the Wiki. Then everyone can benefit from it and I can also just direct the students to the wiki where they can find a lot of other information. Students have also started adding things to the wiki, particularly for the research assistant. You can see that I still have pages in the developer's guide to fill out. My hope is to transfer all of the developer documentation to the wiki.
Top names
Hello Tom,
in a changelog.txt of Version 4.1.5 I found this changing: " - Changed Sort chart, list, and report names in top menu (canajun2eh) ".
Since this Version the dutch names with prefixes like "van" or "van der" changes to the name-falder "V". So, f.e. the family-name "van Antwerpen" which was in falder "A" before, is now in falder "V". How can I change back to the old Sort chart? I would like to have f.e. the name "van Antwerpen" in falder "A" again. I cannot change the writing of several hundred names.
It would be very kind of you if you would answer.
Greetings from Germany
Ulrich
