I may be dumb but I can not work out how to add a new person to the GEDCOM yet! A word search in help shows that somewhere I should be able to "ADD AN UNLINKED PERSON" but it doesn't tell me under which menu its burred under...
Cheers, very impressive work by the way :)
In case it takes a while for someone knowledgable to answer my question... I now believe one is supposed to use GDBI (a JAVA based GEDCOM client) for such "major" editing. If this is indeed the case its a shame as I was aiming for non-technical audience to modify my GEDCOM!
I should have taken the hint... its called phpgedview not phpgededit! ;p
I would have to ask here whether you are trying to add a person inside of phpgedview - in which case that needs to be addressed in the users guide. If it is about editing a text file to add people to the gedcom file that is a different topic. All changed made inside phpgedview by people you give access to change the gedcom file.
Not really clear on what you want here. --Laurie Lewis 09:17, 16 June 2006 (EST)
Good to see a fellow Ozi around here, thanks for the quick reply Laurie. Im sorry, it was an early morning post so my question was not very elliquent! The scenario I am facing is like this, lets say I have a big tree and I discover an indivisual who I know is part of this tree... however, I do not know where exactly he fits in (ie I can not relate him to my existing tree) just yet... non the less I would like to add him because I believe I will find the missing links in future. Is it possible to do that in phpgedview? In GDBI its possible with Add -> New Individual.
BTW, after playing around so more, I found the "link remote person" link under Indivisual list -> select indivisual -> click on name to edit properties -> select the close relatives tab. This is nice because it will allow me to link in those islands (or unlinked sub-branches) of the tree to the main tree as soon as I populate the missing people.
To add an unlinked person, you need to be an Admin. Anyone can then link that person at some later date.
Ah yes, thanks... just expanding on the answer... it can be found in MyGedViewPortal -> Admin -> Add Unlinked Person.
Just as an aside, I wonder why the designers decided to make this an "admin" function?
"Add Unlinked Person": Its not exactly an admin function. You can configure it so that users can come and add themselves in this area. At last users having "Accept" previlidges can commit changes.

If you are the admin, you can add an unlinked person. "Add an unlinked person" is accessible from the Admin's page.
