Talk:Using SVN for PhpGedView

Audience?

Who is the intended audience for this document? It says it is for the more advanced users and if this is the case do we need so much gory detail about installing a svn client, etc.? Also, I am going to work on adding more linux/BSD centric notes as well since this is almost completely Windows oriented. Do we know the number of people using Windows vs. Linux? I sort of doubt there are many Windows users out there that have the wherewithal to use svn for keeping their PhpGedView up-to-date on a colo hosted site. Thoughts? • This seems to have derived from a (largely Windows) wiki note I wrote, which is still at http://wiki.phpgedview.net/en/index.php/How_to_use_Subversion_%28SVN%29 The original has been duplicated in part, and then grown grossly. It has been mislabeled as "advanced". Why not add non-Windows stuff to the original page, and let this one wither and die? Paul

• I think this article should contain details about who uses subversion (SVN), what it is/can be used for and how to achieve each task. It should also point to SVN which should contain any generic SVN type stuff. I would merge the contents of How to use Subversion (SVN) into this document and set a redirect from How to use Subversion (SVN) to Using SVN for PhpGedView. The reasoning is that the Using SVN for PhpGedView title is more generic and conveys an idea about what the article is about whereas I feel that things in an article entitled How to use Subversion (SVN) should probably be generic details about using SVN and should probably belong on the SVN page. In fact, I think I'd rename Using SVN for PhpGedView to Using SVN with PhpGedView. My 2p worth. --Nath | Talk 18:49, 9 January 2008 (EST)
