Using PhpGedView to Submit to TempleReady

PhpGedView can be used to submit files to the TempleReady program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The TempleReady program requires a GEDCOM file with ONLY the people you would like to include in the submission. PhpGedView allows you to create a GEDCOM file of select people using the "Family tree Clippings Cart". With the Clippings Cart you can select multiple people and store references to them in the cart. Then when you are ready, you select the download option and download the file to your desktop.

When preparing records for submission to TempleReady, you should always include the full family records of the individuals. So if you wanted to submit John Doe, you would also want to include his wife and children in the submission file so that those links can be maintained in their system. It is also better for the ordinance work if you submit full families together.

Example Walk-Through

The following example will walk you through how to create a TempleReady submission GEDCOM file which includes John Doe, his parents, and his wife and children.

  1. First add John Doe to the clippings cart
    1. Go to the individual page for John Doe by clicking on his name somewhere else in the program.

    2. Once on his individual page click the Add to Clippings Cart option which can be found under the Other menu in the Options for this Individual section.

  2. Next select the relatives of John Doe that you would also like to add to the cart.
    1. We'll start by adding his parents and siblings with him. From the list of options select the option to Add this person, his parents, and siblings

    2. Click the Continue Adding button. You should now see a page listing John Doe, his father, mother, and any siblings. Cartexample.jpg
  3. Now we want to also add John Doe's wife and children to the cart.
    1. We can do this by adding John Doe to the cart again and selecting one of the other options. NOTE: If a person already exists in the cart, they will NOT be added again, but we can add other relatives of that person.
    2. We add him again in the same we did in step 1 by clicking on his name. But this time, let's add him from the Clippings Cart page by his ID. Next to his name, you should see that his ID is I1.
    3. Enter I1 into the Add Individual By ID box. Alternatively, you could search for him by clicking on the Find Person icon Indi.gif next to the box.
    4. Click the Add button. Addbyid.jpg
    5. You will again see the option to add close relatives. Select the option to add this person, his spouse, and children, then click the "Continue Adding" button.
      Addchildrentocart.jpg
    6. You should now see that that these new people have been added to the cart.
  4. Finally, we want to download a GEDCOM file.
    1. Make sure that the GEDCOM option is selected.
    2. You probably also want to uncheck the options to Zip the file and include media as the file will be small and TempleReady doesn't need any media files.
    3. The following graphic shows how the download options should look.
      Downloadcart.jpg
    4. Click the Download Now button and choose a location on your hard-drive to save the file.
  5. Copy the file to a floppy drive or a to USB drive so that you can take it to a Family History center where you can run it through TempleReady. Since your PhpGedView is available over the internet, you can usually do this process at the Family History center. Check with your family history center to see if they provide an internet connection.
  6. After you run the file through TempleReady, you will be given a new GEDCOM that you will need to take to the temple to print ordinance cards.

PhpGedView and New FamilySearch

FamilySearch is working on a new system which allows programs to interface with their new FamilySearch APIs. These new APIs will include automated TempleReady processes.

PhpGedView will integrate with new FamilySearch to provide automated searching, linking, and TempleReady submission directly withing PhpGedView. The new FamilySearch APIs are currently in a beta phase and are not available for public use.
