Hi Nathan,

I have given you sysop status. I would appreciate some assistance as I have very little time any more to do things around here.

The headers on the pages are a template { { phpgedview } }

Laurie

Nath,

What was the other extension you wanted added. I have deleted my wiki related emails and have forgotten what it was - something to do with parser?????

BTW, You are doing a terrific job with your edits. Thank you for the help.

Yep that right ParserFunctions will allow us to use nice conditional statements in templates such as #if etc. We could steal (ahem, I mean borrow) some templates from wikipedia ;o) to make PGVWiki look nice. --Nath | Talk 02:54, 6 November 2007 (EST

Done mate. Let me know if you need any others. --Laurie Lewis 09:21, 6 November 2007 (EST)

  • Thanks - I've made a start on generating some todo lists on various article talk pages. However, I've come across an anomily which I think is to do with the fact that PGVWiki doesn't recognise the Translations: and Translations_talk: as namespaces - could these be registered? --Nath | Talk 22:36, 7 November 2007 (EST)

Nath,

I have been looking at what you are doing and you are passing my expertise. I am not sure what you mean about the namespace registration - do you mean interwiki links? I tried to create a page called Translations:Test and I was able to do so. Can you just clarify what you need me to do - point me to a link or spell it out.

Looking at the To Do lists - why are we linked back to wikipedia with the first todo link in the title?

Also on namespaces I think we need to visit the namespaces again and clearly redefine what namespaces we have in the wiki. Your changes have moved away from the original namespace documentation we wrote (no problems there) This area needs to be clarified - what namespaces are we going to have/not have in the wiki. I have pasted something to perhaps work on in the discussion area of our wiki namespace page that I will work on during the week.

--Laurie Lewis 22:39, 7 November 2007 (EST)

OK, Namespaces are pagenames prefixed with a namespace string then a ':' followed by am article title, an example is "Help:Contents". You can indeed create pages that look like they are part of a namespace e.g. Translation:Some_page_tile. However, they aren't treated in any special way to unless the namespace is registered with the wiki. For a list of namespaces that PGVWiki currently recognises, see the list in the combo box at Special:Prefixindex. Here's some info on custom namespaces and how to create custom namespaces.

Actually, the Translations "namespace" was being used in 2005 by Translations:Translation_Guidelines. I'm happy to do without it if you think that's the way to go...I don't think there are many pages in this "namespace" anyway.

RE: "Looking at the To Do lists - why are we linked back to wikipedia with the first todo link in the title?" This is a simple interwiki link supposed to provide meaning to the term "to-do list". However, it may cause confusion, so I'll remove the list - I think everyone will know what a to-do list is! :) --Nath | Talk 00:48, 8 November 2007 (EST)

Namespaces

Probably need to have a discussion on namespaces before you do too much more so we have some consistency going on. A few things have changed since we first put the wiki up so I have gone back to working on the basic help pages and PGVWiki policy type stuff. Need to get that firmed up in case other keen people come along.

I have updated PGVWiki:Namespace. Please read and let me know what you think. I am not entirely sure we need namespaces for Hot To and FAQ, they are perhaps best managed as Categories under the main namespace. Perhaps keep How To namespace and move the FAQ stuff into it and get rid of FAQ as it does not really fit in the wiki documentation environment.

I think we should also become a little bit prescriptive about the categories as they will let us group the documents. Categories I suggest as core are :- phpgedview Users Guide Installation Guide Administrators Guide Developers Guide ?? How To PGVWiki Genealogy Help Stub User

I suppose the idea behind defining the categories we would like to use is to give everyone a clear idea on what we expect and getting some consistency and being able to fix things up as you are going through - though it is not only you doing edits, etc. I also don't want to discourage enthusiasm because it is great what you are doing. This list might also need expanding.

I can see what you are doing but it would be great if you could fill me in on what you see as the end result so I can conceptualise where you think it will end up and how it will look. Might be able to help more and we might be able to get some others on board as well - thought they come and go.

Let me know what you think. Perhaps there is a need for us to have a chat via messenger or something. Kids use messenger not me but my account is my_digital_home (at) hotmail (dot) com.

Leave it there for a while. --Laurie Lewis 12:58, 8 November 2007 (EST)

I'll add to the PGVWiki_talk:Namespace page regarding namespaces. I understand the worry about proliferating categories. However, they should be used and used quite flexibly, with new categories being added whenever the need arises. Having to few means articles can't be categorised appropriately, having too many means authors can't be bothered finding an appropriate category. However, I don't think the number of categories we have at the moment is unwieldy. However, maybe we should look at creating a suitable category hierarchy for starters. We should probably install the m:Extension:CategoryTree so we get a nice category tree like at wikipedia. These links would probably be useful to have our own implementation:

Morning Nath,

Have included the extension this morning and appears to be working ok. I will read the links you provided above and get back to you. Agree with you about categories generally.

Looking at the To Do list - Just thinking that 9 levels is way too confusing. Are you able to cut it down to 2 - Major and Minor and still have the undefined list as well. Don't think people will look through all 9 thats all.

I have just added some more that I thought I had missed. If there are any others I will have a look tomorrow and add them. Just add the list to where you were doing it. Sorry this took so long but at least it is done now or can be done now.

Hi mate,

Hope all is well mate.

I hope all is back to what it should be now. Interwiki links are working again. Needed to change format with upgrade to latest version for some reason. I hope all the pages are back that you had done - didn't think I was going to get them back for a while.

I have also edited the interwiki list by deleting a lot that I didn't think were used. I have left a few in but hope I have not deleted any that you needed. You can add them again if needed at Special:Interwiki or let me know and I will put them back again.

Anything else you need done this end?
