New page

4.0 beta
Remote link creates "phantom" families, with an apparent duplication of parentage. This is a known problem with the beta.

[edit]Mother and father linked
Because the program doesn't recognize that the father and mother are supposed to be married locally, it shows the remote family twice, once as a step family for the father and once as the step family for the mother.

You should merge the two families that establish the relationships to the remote mother and father. Go to the Admin page and select the "Merge records" link and enter the two family numbers.

________________________

This needs further explaination, I cannot figure out how to merge these two families? I get two families as described above:

gedcom1:
spouse-wife
husband-wife

gedcom2:
spouse-wife
husband-wife

I go to merge records but what do I merge? The IDs or the families? I have tried both but they are incorrect so I undo the changes until I get further explaination on this procedure. Any help at all greatly appreciated.
Mark

There seems to be no problems at all linking to a remote person as a wife from one gedcom to another on the same site. The problem pops up when a return link is made linking a remote person as a husband from the other gedcom file?

Gedcom File 1: link remote wife from File 2 to an individual in File 1. This works fine. No need to do anything afterwards.

Gedcom File 2: link remote husband from File 1 to wife called earlier in File 2. A ghost marriage as you call it, shows up in both files? Numerous attempts to Merge records does nothing but makes things worse as individual eventually become totally different ids. Help needed?
